CURRENT NEWS!

Alexa, make a note to calendar, Saturday March 23, 2024.  Some Pennsylvania black bears will soon be leaving their winter dens.  The first thing on the awakening bear’s mind is food.  Plants like skunk cabbage and early grasses are about all there is in the early spring, so that is what they eat, it’s no wonder they growl a lot!
You however need not submit to grazing in the early spring.  Instead you can fly, drive, bike or walk to the Greene County Airport near Waynesburg Pa for a pancake breakfast hosted by S.O.A.R. of Greene County. And, borrowing an often heard infomercial phrase, BUT WAIT there’s more. The Churches of Greene County, will be sponsoring another Helicopter Easter Egg Drop around 11am.  They promise to use hardboiled eggs this time, sorry for the mess last year.  Just kidding, it’s a very nice event, something for young and old alike, and a great excuse to venture out into the spring air. The Plane Train will be up and running as well, we hope you can join us.
If you need directions to the airport click here, when the page opens, the big hangar that you see in the front/ center of the picture at the top of the page is where breakfast will be served, and current info on the 11am egg drop can be had (always a chance of a weather delay).

First, thank you to all who helped to make the 2023 Airport Days a success, to those who donated time, money, and the use of their aircraft, and especially all of the general public who attended!
Our humble little airport has produced several professional pilots over the decades, and this heartwarming story in the Experimental Aircraft Association magazine is proof positive that the current generation will carry on that legacy with vigor.  As many of us have now entered the inevitable state of geezer-hood, it is very nice to know that the more youthful members are more than willing to step up and carry the torch until they too reach geezer status, or in this case geezerette status.  Seriously, please give it a read, proof that hard work and dedication will still produce positive results, even in very rural Greene County Pa.  As
Thomas Edison once correctly noted regarding his success. “It’s 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.” Edison’s business plan still works, whether building a better light bulb or becoming a captain for United, American, or other airlines. Below is the link.

Please Read!  Some updates regarding our August 19th and 20th, 2023 Aviation Days event, free Young Eagles rides and more.
Online registration is now open for those interested in taking a Young Eagles Ride. These rides are free for anyone who qualifies.  Kids MUST be between 8-17 years of age, and must have their PARENT (or court-appointed legal guardian) with them. Online registration is available now and will conclude on 8/17 at 6pm.   For anyone who did not pre-register online, you may still have a shot as walk-in registrations will be accepted after 2pm on Saturday Aug 19th.  Please note that Young Eagles rides will be offered on Saturday Aug 19th ONLY.  If you want to improve your chances of a free ride, we would encourage online pre-registration.  This program is offered through a partnership with the Experimental Aircraft Association and the local EAA Chapter 842.  Both the aircraft, and the pilots who fly them, receive no compensation.  Their only payment is the smiling faces of the kids as they view the world below.  A reminder: this program is only for youths. Parents or guardians may not accompany them during the ride, but must be with them at the airport to sign the final registration form, even if pre-registered online.  Those are the nationwide rules set forth by the Experimental Aircraft Association and we cannot make any exceptions.  Please click on the following link to pre-register and to view more information.   https://youngeaglesday.org/?8123     To view more general updates on this year’s Aviation Days event, go to the Aviation Days page using the navigation menu in the header or footer.

Gail S. Halvorsen, the Berlin Candy Bomber, dies at 101As many of you know, we often celebrate and honor the Berlin Airlift at our Aviation Day events.  Halvorsen, who flew many missions during the airlift, was an example to all of us of how having a kind heart and forgiveness in your soul can change, for the better, the world we live in.  Thank you Colonel Halvorsen, for your sacrifice, courage, and for giving the hopeless hope.  Read More About Him Here
