CURRENT NEWS!
9-25-25. It’s Pancake Breakfast time at the Greene County Airport! Come join us on Saturday Oct 18th.
Animals living in the wild, deer, bear, and many others, know it’s time to start adding weight to help survive the long winter and the scarcity of food that winter brings with it. The shorter hours of daylight as fall approaches, is the signal nature provides to alert all that it’s now or never to add those life saving layers of fat to hopefully make it through the lean winter months. So, pause those GLP-1 meds temporarily, and follow Mother Nature’s advice to prepare for winter, join us at the Greene County Airport for one last dining hurrah. The poor critters in the wild must force down huge quantities of raw acorns, or road kill, or bugs, absent mind you of pleasing condiments like salt, or pepper, or gravy, or butter, or syrup, and even ketchup. But you will be guaranteed not to be subjected to such cruel restrictions if you decide to join us.

John Strope Celebration of Life
It is with sincere sadness that we at S.O.A.R. are announcing a Celebration of Life to be held at the Greene Count Airport. As many of you know, John passed away a few weeks ago after only 79 trips around the sun. John loved his many years as the anchor of airport in Waynesburg, only second to his love of his children and family. From the day he opened his business as owner operator of the Strope’s Aircraft Maintenance, he dedicated his life to all things aviation. He never failed to close the shop and volunteer his time, hangar space, and his years’ worth of contacts and knowledge to provide the much needed help for Aviation Day, or breakfast fly-ins, or whatever was needed that he could spare to make any event successful. He served his community, and as a younger man his country well, and lived an honorable life along with being a good friend to many of us.
And may we also say that he was the best flapjack cook this side of the Monongahela River, making likely thousands of them over the years at the many fly-in breakfasts. So please come and join us celebrate not his passing, but his life well lived. Click Here for information about the celebration on 8-18-24. And if you would like to read his obituary as well Click Here. A few pictures of John at the various events that he volunteered his help for can be seen by Clicking Here.
Gail S. Halvorsen, the Berlin Candy Bomber, dies at 101. As many of you know, we often celebrate and honor the Berlin Airlift at our Aviation Day events. Halvorsen, who flew many missions during the airlift, was an example to all of us of how having a kind heart and forgiveness in your soul can change, for the better, the world we live in. Thank you Colonel Halvorsen, for your sacrifice, courage, and for giving the hopeless hope. Read More About Him Here
