Big Thank You To All Involved in Aviation Day 2025!

8-18-25. Well, another Aviation Day event in the rear view mirror. Nice weather, calm winds, a little history, an opportunity to see Greene County from the air, and did I mention food.  We wanted to sincerely thank everyone involved, the volunteer pilots giving the Young Eagles rides and the charitable ride pilots and their volunteer aircraft, the vendors, the people who flew the various historic and other aircraft in for display, the Greene county government for its cooperation, all of the folks who toiled in the hot weather to set up and teardown the event hardware, and the biggest thank you of all to those of you who came to the event.  After all it would not be much of an event if no one came to Aviation Day, and instead decided to visit the semi annual Greene County Paint Drying Watchers Association workshop.  Seriously, thank you for coming and we hope you had a wonderful time.

Below is a list of sponsors, those who tossed some money in the hat to make Aviation Day possible for our community.  If you enjoyed this yearly aviation related gathering, please consider shopping at the retail businesses, or just a tip of your hat to any or all of the sponsors should your paths cross sometime in the future.  See you next year!

General Event Information

If the weather and other anomalies favor us this year, the charitable airplane rides, given by volunteer pilots (who also force their aircraft to volunteer) will be giving rides for a nominal fee, well below the average commercial price, which helps to cover the cost of the event and other expenses.  The Charitable Rides are open to everyone young and old and in-between who can be safely buckled in.  Likewise, volunteer pilots and their aircraft will be offering the FREE Young Eagle rides for eligible kids.  There should be a food truck or two around as well and the new airport restaurant is open for indoor dining.

Historic Aircraft at the 2025 event

Beach City Baby

One of this year’s featured historic aircraft is the Vintage Wings 1942 C-53 Beach City Baby, a nicely restored version of the iconic Douglas DC-3.  It takes an enormous amount of effort, grit and determination to save these historic aircraft from the scrap yard, often the driving factor being one individual’s dream, who collects the team and funding, and gives up their nice quiet life to make it happen, and we salute those who do so.  To read more about the Beach City Baby, its WWII and civilian history, and restoration, also lots of pictures and video Click Here.

Douglas C-54
This C-54, owned and operated by the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation honors all who took part in the Berlin Airlift, a significant event during the early Cold War, occurring from June 26, 1948, to May 12, 1949. It was initiated in response to the Soviet blockade of West Berlin, which aimed to cut off all land access to the city controlled by the Western Allies. WWII in Europe had just ended a few years prior to the airlift in May of 1945.  Many of the US, British and other pilots tasked with the very dangerous job of supplying Berlin with the food and basic needs to survive, were a few years earlier, targets of the German vast and effective air defense system.  For those who desire more knowledge regarding this iconic event, the  links below will get you started.

North American Aviation T-6 (Texan)
The T-6 WWII advanced training aircraft, was used by several allied nations.  Once aspiring fighter pilots mastered the Texan, the next step was assignment to one of the various piston engine fighter aircraft of the day.  However, mastering the T-6 Texan was no easy task;  it was and is still an aircraft not for the faint of heart. If you survived T-6 training, you were indeed worthy of the title of fighter pilot.  Click Here for more information

Travel Air Biplane
A late 1920’s aircraft, very popular in its day, and an early success in cementing the United States as an innovative player in the world of aircraft design.  Click Here for more information

Young Eagles Rides
Free airplane rides for eligible kids 8 to 17 years of age.
This program is offered through a partnership with the Experimental Aircraft Association and the local EAA Chapter 842. Both the aircraft, and the pilots who fly them, receive no compensation. Their only payment is the smiling faces of the kids as they view the world below. A reminder, this program is only for youths. Parents or legal guardians may NOT accompany them during the ride, but MUST be with them at the airport to sign the final registration form.  These are nationwide rules set forth by the Experimental Aircraft Association and we cannot make any exceptions.
